Can’t a hotel be built next to a school?

The word which is almost forgotten is arising, ‘Construction of hotels near schools’. Joined non-governmental organizations issued a joint statement against ‘Construction of hotels near schools’ on early April. This is because the government passed the bill permitting it in the meeting of economy ministers in advance.

The suspicions about companies and the governments which have interests each other would not be mentioned in this article, however, where is the accommodation site of the United States Embassy? From northern Insadong through Samcheongdong and Bukchon to Gyeongbokgung and Gwanghwamun, the site is over the fence, tall stone walls and the road of an impenetrable iron gate, which take possession of a gigantic block.

Currently, being Gyeongbokgung-Gwanghwamun-Sejongno (Yookcho Street) as the axis, the status of national symbolic street, which has preserved five palaces and Jongmyo Shrine inside four Great Gates in the shape of ‘T’, has been transformed like a before/after change by twin towers, and the landscape started being destroyed abruptly. The pressure threatening the hierarchy of historic area near Bukchon, Seochon, etc. is growing more powerful.

The historic area’s existence, which was acknowledged several years ago when the Cultural Heritage Administration and the city of Seoul were struggling with height restriction of the new city hall over the years, has presently disappeared, and the policy of historic area is wandering because of different regulations of the local governments and the central governments, like the city of Seoul focuses on urban regeneration while the Blue House sets a high value on the tourism promotion law.

Considering development profits, leaving crucial parcels of land in the heart of Jongno as it is is nonsense. However, suppose foreigners who is drinking wine and is looking down Gyeongbokgung like a garden in a suit room of a gigantic 10~20 floor glass-skin building. If construction of the hotel is allowed, Gyeongbokgung would be squeezed up more, the class of national symbolic street would be collapsed at a single blow, and the regionality of Bukchon, Insadong, and Samcheongdong would lose their colors.

Paris is an international city where history, tradition, architecture, and urban culture have become national confidence and added value. Paris has separately developed new towns and established cities thoroughly to preserve heritages.

Consequently, a new landmark like la Grande Arche de la Defense was able to be born. Nailing a single piece is strict in established cities, on the other hands, it has been allowed for the new town to develop base on capitalism as much as possible.

If the amplified explanation is burdensome, just remind Paris in France. There are areas in which a higher and more expensive structure should be enthusiastically built or not. Mentioning the issue that was already defeated in Supreme Court in 2010 repeatedly seems like no sense of discernment.
